A Glamorous Opening for Graduations at Cheltenham Spa

Hair and beauty industry professionals gathered to celebrate the official opening of the new commercial training salon at the Cheltenham Campus of Gloucestershire College last night.

Graduations at Cheltenham Spa was unveiled to 30 special guests, including salon managers and owners from all over Gloucestershire, as well as VIPs and stakeholders. They were welcomed to the event by students and staff from the GC School of Hair and Beauty, who showed them around the spacious facilities, which include a luxurious reception area, fully equipped hairdressing salon and relaxing beauty therapy room.

Guests sipped on cocktails while Principal Matthew Burgess introduced two guest speakers. Mandy Wells, Head of Education at the Confederation of International Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (CIBTAC), praised the standard of the new facilities.

She said: “The best student salons are the ones that offer an environment and standards that could rival any high end salon – the incredible level of attention of detail and the fantastic surroundings here at Gloucestershire College are amongst the best I’ve ever seen.

“I’d like to congratulate everyone involved with the creation of this world class facility for real-life, employer led vocational training. And to all the students here, I wish you the absolute best success in your studies and future careers – enjoy this fantastic place to get your first experiences of what the beauty industry can offer.”

Former GC hairdressing student Georgina Exton, told the audience of her journey since completing her training at the Gloucester Campus four years ago. She said: “Since becoming fully qualified in hairdressing and barbering at the College, I’ve worked in several salons in the county.

“While at college I was so inspired by my tutors and the one-to-one tuition I received, that I decided I’d like to follow in their footsteps by completing a teaching qualification. I’m now one week away from gaining my BTEC in Education and Training with Gloucestershire College, which I hope will enable me to come back and teach what I love doing.

“I can honestly say I wouldn’t be where I am today with the skills and knowledge of hairdressing, if it wasn’t for the help from my amazing tutors and the facilities at Gloucestershire College.”

Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy Head of School, Deborah Hughes, said: “I’m thrilled in having so many employers and guests from the industry here tonight and cannot stress how important it is for our local employers to work in partnership with us, to ensure we are able to provide the highest calibre future employees for them.

“In February 2017 we will be launching the Gloucestershire College Hair and Beauty Advisory Board, which is aimed at informing us of what we need to do to become the first choice for students and employers alike.

“Here at the College we hope that as many local businesses as possible commit to join the Advisory Board, as employability is the golden thread in everything we do.”

Graduations at Cheltenham Spa is now open to the public, joining the College’s salons in Gloucester and the Forest of Dean in offering hair styling and beauty treatments at competitive prices.
